In the past egg donation was often done in secrecy for a variety of privacy reasons – many egg donations were kept anonymous (this is still done today but is not encouraged). It is now known that for the sake of the donor-conceived child, that it is healthy to have the egg donor in the lives of the intended parents and the child in some capacity (however this may look different for each situation). It is encouraged that the donor-conceived child(ren) are told their origins from a young age.
